How to pray Fajr: a beginner roadmap

Fajr is the dawn prayer, one of the five daily obligatory prayers in Islam. Its obligatory prayer consists of two rakahs. If you are new to Salah, learn the overall structure with a reliable teacher rather than memorizing isolated instructions.

When is Fajr?

Fajr begins at true dawn and ends at sunrise. Local prayer times depend on date, location, and calculation conventions; use a reliable local timetable rather than a fixed clock time.

What does a beginner learn first?

Learn preparation and Wudu, facing the qibla, the meaning of intention, and the structure of a rakah. The prayer includes standing, Quran recitation, bowing, prostration, and the closing salutation. A qualified instructional resource should teach exact wording and sequence.

How many rakahs?

The obligatory Fajr prayer has two rakahs. There are also two recommended Sunnah rakahs before the obligatory prayer; keep these categories distinct while learning.
